What causes keloids to develope?

i have developed some small keloids on my chest and i think that it was caused by trying to shave my chest area, in doing so i burst a small like pimple that had some discharge. Now that they have grew into six from that small pimple. The question i pose is what cause that to happen and why does they itch so much.
